So for a while now I've been planning on painting something involving eyeballs because, well, I have a fascination with them. I've gone through various ideas - maggots bursting out of an eyeball, butterfly sitting on an eyeball which in turn is sitting in an egg cup - generally some very creepy, bug-orientated, "I wonder what a shrink would make of this" ideas. However, I've discarded the creepy-crawlies and opted to paint an eyeball held between thumb and forefinger. Of course, I decided to add blades tied to the fore- and middle finger because I have to have something unsettling in it. Sure, some might argue that the original subject was unsettling enough...but there's something about metal and eyes that just makes it for me.
